If you're joining in on "Blog every day in July," then today's prompt is "Things that make me happy." Side note: a full list of the prompts can be found here. Now, even though Faith, Allie, and I asked you to not link up unless you follow the prompts, I am going to disregard that rule because I did a nearly identical post less than two weeks ago and I just really don't want to be
an outfit repeater a blog topic repeater. Kate Sanders would totally call me out in front of everybody and I just don't want to deal with that right now and plus I have a bunch of other stuff I want to tell you.
Like, let's just talk about THIS for a moment.
Oh, that's not mine. Do you remember Jacey? One of my best friends? My roommate until about a month ago? Well, she went and moved across the country and got ENGAGED over the weekend. I am SO excited for her and Justin and I really wish she was here so we could plan her wedding over a feast of bacon waffles and mimosas. I also wish I could tackle her a la Michael Scott, but instead I'll settle for just texting her and saying, "OMG YOU'RE ENGAGED" over and over and over.
Also another one of my old roommates got engaged over the weekend and another friend announced her second pregnancy. The highlight of my weekend was taking an amazing nap on Saturday and then beating Keith and his parents at Shanghai so all in all it was a pretty big weekend for me.
Oh oh oh, something else that makes me happy is when my niece is all
decorated dressed up for holidays, like Independence Day. Example:
Let me just take this opportunity to apologize to you for not taking any pictures of fireworks. I know you are probably dying to see yet another firework picture and I just don't have that for you. In fact, I hardly took any pictures this weekend because I am a failure. On Friday we went to Lake Arrowhead with his parents to watch the fireworks (if you don't know what Lake Arrowhead is, well, it's just a big lake in some mountains and it's really pretty) and it was so much fun! It was insanely crowded (no surprise) but we had great seats and the show was wonderful. And his dad took this photo of us that is not awkward or uncomfortable at all and I think you can really see the love.
I really wanted to tell his dad, "Ok, can you please tell me when you're going to take the picture? And can you also take a few pictures from different angles so I can pick the best one, and can you take one of us in front of the lake also? And can you please tell me if I'm hunching and look like an idiot so I can straighten up?" But I didn't say anything and instead you get this gem of us sitting in lawn chairs from the 70s.
On Saturday there was a fireworks show at another lake, so we decided to go to "our" mountain which overlooks that lake and watch. It was supposed to be really romantic, and we decided to take his dogs. The fireworks were loud and did you guys know that dogs don't like loud fireworks? It was hilarious. His beagle started out by howling at the fireworks and then she burrowed behind my back and just shook for the rest of the show. His golden retriever just shook and kept trying to hide. We decided that's probably exactly what it's like to have kids: annoying and not romantic.
Then last night I left his house way too late because we were watching Jeopardy and these shows about the 80s and 90s and I was learning things I didn't know before, like how Bill Clinton plays the saxaphone and how Kurt Cobain was the lead singer of Nirvana (I honestly had no clue), and then on my way home I had to stop at a gas station and get a can of Diet Coke because nectar of the gods and I thought it was a great idea to take a selfie. This weekend was just a weekend of awkward pictures. Also I didn't get home until almost 4am and I ended up getting less than two hours of sleep and I think I'll fall asleep at my desk today please don't tell my boss.
