OMG Karen, you can't just tell people that you blog

My blog is a secret from everybody in my real life except for 3 people. Sometimes that makes things hard. Like, when people ask me certain questions I have to come up with a fake answer really quick because, "OMG Karen, you can't just tell people that you blog." So here. Some common questions.

Why are you taking so many pictures? And why are they all selfies?

How do you know this girl you're going to see in San Diego?

How did you all of a sudden start getting more likes and followers on Instagram? You've never been popular. Like, ever. (coughstillnotcoughcough)

So.... do you have any hobbies?

Why are you always tweeting? What's your Twitter handle?

Who are you always texting? Who are these friends of yours who live far away and who I've never heard of?

Why did somebody comment on your Instagram picture asking about your blog? What's a blog?

Really? You're going to take a picture of our food? Why do you take so many pictures of food?

  1. Whenever my family or friends do something blog worthy I tell them it's going in my blog and imagine that I'm saying it just the way Barney does in that episode

I wish I would've been smart like you and made a separate twitter handle and kept my blog link off of IG because now I have people from my tiny hometown (pop. 1000) reading it and it makes me cringe and want to drink myself into a stupor

  7. Haha- this is wonderful. I tell some and don't tell others - I need to be way more filtered about my blogging life because then I can talk about more that's going on in my life, right? Well done!

  8. Story of my life! Just a weeks ago, my mom asked if I had a blog. I obviously lied. (Sorry, Mom!) But I'm still not sure if she has found it or not. *shudder*

  12. I didn't tell anyone in real life about it for probably six months or so. Only my boyfriend knew, but he is horible with keeping secrets and he told his family. So, they started asking me about it and then I had to tell my family. Plus, I knew that I was going to slip up and post something on my personal Facebook instead of the blog or someone else would. Then it would be all over from there! lol

  17. LOL this is so perfect! I haven't been doing it long so it's not hard to keep a secret, but only one other person IRL knows about mine!

  18. I finally posted on Facebook a little while ago and now I'll share my posts once in a while, but I don't think most of the people I know in real life care.

  19. haha this is great! but it's true -- it's a difficult mix between the real world and blog world!

  20. I had this issue too! Not that my blog was a secret necessarily but I definitely wasn't advertising the fact that I did it because I didn't want everybody in my real life reading it. Which sounds weird, but you know what I mean. Eventually I got a little bit outed in a way, and people found out. So now I don't mention it, but don't hide it either.

  21. hahaha at "You've never been popular." I think pretty much everyone who knows me knows that I blog...whether that means they even know what a blog IS is very debatable.

  22. This may be the truest thing I ever read! I am soo nervous because in May we are going to a wedding for Brian's side of the family in Florida, and while I'm down there I want to visit a blog friend.. umm how am I going to explain to Brian's family who my "friend" is? ahh

  23. The other day I was saying to a friend that I needed to find a new hobby…she jokingly suggested I start a blog. Nervous laughter and a quick conversation change followed.

  24. Yes! I try to avoid telling people I have a blog since I talk about my budget and things that bother me sometimes. But if people ask I'll tell them I blog and just hope that they don't ask to read it.

  25. haha! how do you avoid telling people! I get to awkward and then tell the truth and then they get weird and walk away.

  26. YES. Although my blog isn't a "secret" to my friends, it totally is to the rest of the world. THE BEST part of being a blogger is getting a bunch of likes on an insta selfie. There I said it, you know it's true!

  27. YES YES YES. This is my life completely. My parents, my husband, and one or two friends know my blog exists. When people ask how I know people in different parts of the country and why I'm going to visit them, I just say they're friends from college. Which works because I went to college far away. My real life friends don't even know about my twitter or instagram. That would make me sound like a freak, but blog friends have slowly been taking over as my real life friends. If that makes any sense. Sometimes I feel like I'm living a double life. And I love it.

  28. My mom thinks it's really cute when people make a comment about something computer related to say "Oh Allie blogs"... and then the questions roll in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh how fun it is when you can't tell people the reason you need to take pictures and that you have friends half way across the country... whoops my bad! That's why my blog is lacking pictures (and posts at the moment)!!

  30. yes! this is totally me too. my boyfriend knows and has participated in photographing, but i told him not to read. i also know a fellow blogger irl that reads, and my mom has heard about it but doesn't know my url. everyone else? nope nope nope.

  31. My husband is like this..."who are you talking to..how do you know they aren't real" blah blah blah

  32. Where has your blog been all my life?? Love. It!!!

  33. Haha! I keep mine a super secret and I hate when people ask me hard questions like that. I get the twitter one a lot. I'm talking about something I read and they're like "Oh, you have twitter?" "NOPE!"
